Borrowed & Blue

We kick off our 36th season with music shaped by African and African American traditions. Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 5, written during his time in Egypt, is infused with exotic melodies and dazzling virtuosity. Gershwin and Weill both wove blues and jazz into a classical framework in their groundbreaking operas, Porgy and Bess and The Threepenny Opera, whose unforgettable tunes – like Mack the Knife and Summertime – have become standards of both the concert hall and the Great American Songbook.

Join your Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra as they present a tribute to one of the most famous musical icons in history, Glenn Miller. Famous for being the leader of the most popular big band during the Big Band Era, Miller was the music symbol of a generation. In the late 1930’s and 1940’s, he was a pop superstar with dozens of hit songs.  In just four years, Miller launched twenty-three number one hits – more than Elvis and The Beatles.  Andrew Cleaver leads some of Florida’s finest jazz musicians as they perform these iconic works including “In The Mood”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “American Patrol”, “Tuxedo Junction”, “A String Of Pearls”, “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and many more.
